UPDATE: Sherman Minton westbound closure delayed until next week

John Boyle

A 9-day closure of the Sherman Minton Bridge has been delayed until next week.

Westbound lanes on the bridge were scheduled to shut down at 3 a.m. Wednesday. That’s been pushed to Monday. The closure will last until Nov. 10.

Project officials said rain prevented crews from strengthening the westbound ramp from I-265 to I-64, which is expected to see increased traffic during the closure. Those improvements will now happen Wednesday and Thursday.

Crews will patch the main deck and approach bridges on the Sherman Minton during the 9-day closure starting next week. The bridge carries I-64 between New Albany and Louisville.

The work is part of the Sherman Minton Renewal project, which will add up to 30 years of life to the aging bridge. The full project is slated to take two and a half years, during which at least one lane of traffic in each direction will be open 95% of the time.

One 9-day closure in each
