Not Many Kentucky Turkeys On Thanksgiving Tables

While Kentucky is regarded as a big producer of poultry, turkey isn't a big part of the market. Kentucky Poultry Foundation Director Jamie Guffey said it’s not likely bluegrass state grown birds will end up on a Thanksgiving Day table.

Guffey said most Kentucky produced turkeys head to Indiana. “Most of the larger commercial growers in the state of Kentucky grow for Farbest foods, and their main supply goes to Boars Head for lunch meat,"   said Guffey.

Guffey added there are a few Kentucky turkey growers who sell holiday birds individually. Kentucky’s poultry industry is the number one agriculture commodity in cash receipts for the Commonwealth.?
