Lake Barkley State Park Improvements Announced

parks.ky.gov

Work is continuing to restore Kentucky state park facilities to levels found 15 to 20 years ago.  That’s according to State Parks Commissioner Donnie Holland.  Just announced this week was $6 million in improvements at Lake Barkley State Resort Park.

The General Assembly appropriated $38 million for deferred maintenance during 2016 to 2018 and borrowed another $50 million earlier this year. Holland said it’s all about restoration.

“There will still be lots and lots of maintenance issues to be fixed before there can be any logical discussion of expansion or like a new lodge or things like that,” said Holland

Holland said when  the “Restoring the Finest” campaign is completed, all 17 lodges will have new roofs.  The commissioner noted restored parks facilities will hopefully attract more people.

Holland said campground restoration is also part of the program.
