National Corvette Museum Ceremony Marks Sinkhole Anniversary

kentucky.com

The National Corvette Museum is planning a ceremony to mark the anniversary of a sinkhole that formed and swallowed eight prized corvettes.

The hole opened up when the Bowling Green museum was closed, and no one was injured. But the 40-foot-wide by 60-foot deep hole became a popular attraction for tourists, with visits to the museum increasing last year by 66 percent.

Security camera footage showing the floor's collapse has been viewed about 8.4 million times on YouTube. In the fall, workers arrived to start plugging the hole. Repairs are still under way.

Media outlets report that the museum has events scheduled Thursday afternoon to mark the anniversary.
