Holiday Travelers in Kentucky Reveling in Low Gas Prices

clarksvilleonline.com

Kentuckians hitting the road this week for Christmas will be gifted with low prices at the gas pump. Gasoline prices have fallen consistently in the past few weeks. Lexington AAA Spokesman Christopher Oakford says it wouldn't be out the question for a gallon of gas to dip below $2 in central Kentucky.  "I couldn't say we will see it under $2, but I hope so and I don't see there's any reason why it shouldn't if current trends continue," said Oakford.

Oakford says, while gas prices have been on the decline, the same can't be said for airfare.  "They haven't been coming down.  I mean it's great news for motorists but air fares are still are the levels they were last year and there's no real sign of a decrease," added Oakford.

Holiday travel can be a stressful time for some. Oakford says travelers should be realistic about travel times and expect to arrive at their destination later than planned due to high traffic.  "If they're not at point X by a certain time they feel somehow it's all going wrong and they're not progressing as they should.  Just forget about it.  There's a huge amount of traffic on the road.  There are likely to be delays.  It's likely to take you more time.  So, just don't put yourself under the pressure," explained Oakford.

The AAA spokesman says well over 90 percent of holiday related travel is expected to take place by car.?
