TV Ad in State Senate Race Removed

wktv.com

A Lexington TV station has removed a campaign ad after a Republican state Senate candidate complained the ad was false.

Republican candidate Ralph Alvarado says an ad by Democratic state Sen. R.J. Palmer altered courtroom footage to imply Alvarado, a doctor, unlawfully prescribed $3,000 worth of oxycodone to a criminal defendant. Alvarado's attorney, Chad Meredith, says video from the court hearing is clear the defendant had a valid prescription from Alvarado for Oxycontin.

Meredith said the ad does not contain Palmer's voice or image, meaning it is not exempt from censorship under FCC rules.

WKYT General Sales Manager Kevin Kidd confirmed the ad was removed Friday afternoon. Attempts to reach Palmer were unsuccessful.

Palmer, the senate minority floor leader, defeated Alvarado in a close race in 2010.
