The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky and Indianapolis airports are joining the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) new PreCheck program. Eligible fliers on American and Delta and certain members of Customs and Border Protection’s Trusted Traveler programs will have the chance to move more quickly through security screening by registering ahead of time with the TSA and its member airlines, which will include U.S. Airways, United and Alaskan airlines later this year, said TSA spokesman Jim Fotenofs.
“That expedited screening could include leaving your shoes on, your belts on, your jackets on, your laptops in your bags and your limited quantity liquids would no longer have to come out,” he said.
But aside from cutting time in security lines for certain passengers, the program also helps the TSA focus security on unfamiliar passengers, said Fotenofs.
“So if we could make that haystack smaller for them, we could more effectively focus our resources on those who may need more scrutiny while providing a quicker experience for those we know a little but more about,” he said.
Right now the program operates in four cities, but by the end of this year 35 airports will have the program. Louisville International Airport is not among them. Airport passenger traffic, security checkpoint configuration and airline choice are all factors that decide program involvement, Fotenofs said.
