Lexington To Demolish Phoenix Garage

Lexington Mayor Jim Gray says it would take nearly a half million dollars to make the upper deck of the Phoenix Parking Garage safe again for motorists, so he has little choice but to order the structure razed. "Four structural engineering firms have examined this garage and all have come to the same conclusion. Leaving the garage open is dangerous for anyone who parks there or uses the sidewalks surrounding it."The mayor says crews will begin demolishing the garage early next month. He says he needs more time to announce whether a new structure will be built in its place. Estimated cost for that would be in the million dollar range
