Work to widen a major artery in southwest Lexington is proceeding, but slower than commuters, construction workers and government officials had hoped. Crews have worked since the first of the year on the Clays Mill Road project. The relocation of utility lines occupied the first few months of 2011. After that, Lexington project manager Keith Lovan says wet weather slowed progress. Now, Lovan says they’re working to catch up.
“They are bringing in an extra pipe crew to help expedite the project. So, the contractor is working very diligently to get it down by the completion date,” said Lovan.
The work to widen this section of Clays Mill was originally scheduled for completion by November. But, Lovan anticipates it to take a while longer to finish.
“We’ve got a projected date of November. With these delays that I have mentioned, the utility conflicts and the weather, it’s probably looking more like the first of December. Barring any other un-foreseen delays, we should be finished by the end of the year,” added Lovan.
Crews were also busy Monday re-surfacing a portion of Clays Mill just outside the Man o-War loop.
