Governor Announces Increased Security Around State Capitol This Weekend

Stu Johnson

Governor Beshear is announcing increased security in and around the state capitol this weekend.  It comes following reports of planned protests at state capitols through the presidential inauguration Tuesday.

The governor says there have been domestic terror threats against state capitols all over the U.S.  Beshear added, quote, “Our commitment is that what happened at the U.S. Capitol will not happen here.”

In addition to increased law enforcement, Beshear said areas near the Kentucky State Capitol will be closed on Sunday.  He noted the Capitol grounds would be closed entirely.  The governor acknowledged the measure will inconvenience some in the area.

So far, Acting Kentucky State Police Commissioner Lieutenant Colonel Phillip Burnett Junior said KSP has not received any requests or notification of a rally.?
