Bourbon-Beer-Wine Measure Passes Kentucky Senate

The Kentucky Senate voted in favor of a bill Monday that provides specific rules for bourbon distilleries, small farm wineries, and craft brewers.

Bill Sponsor John Schickel called it a “follow up” measure.  The Northern Kentucky lawmaker said Senate Bill 99 sets minimum production standards for craft breweries.

“What we found out with Senate Bill 11 was that some distillers were actually setting up front distillers that weren’t really making anything just so they could operate this bar or gift shop which was in violation of the spirit of the original legislation,” noted Schickel.

Schickel said the bill creates an equal playing field for craft breweries, small farm wineries, and distilleries on local option wet-dry precinct elections.  The bill now goes on to the House.?
