Senate President Robert Stivers won full backing Monday for new executive branch lobbying guidelines. Among other things, the bill requires the disclosure of executive agency lobbyist compensation.
The Clay County senator said he’s not inferring there’s anything wrong with lobbying the executive branch of government.
“But they will not be able to skirt the system for being a consultant, being paid for things for which they are trying to influence legislation, either the veto or the signing of the implementation of those laws,” noted Stivers.
Stivers reminded his chamber that he first broached this subject in the first week of the session. He has drawn attention to federal bribery and kickback scheme trials in recent years as one reason for the new lobbying requirements.
