More than two months after American Pharoah’s historic race at the Breeders Cup in Lexington, the champion thoroughbred is continuing to receive accolades. A resolution was heartily embraced Thursday by the Kentucky Senate that recognizes the bluegrass birthplace of the grand slam racing winner.
The Triple Crown and Breeders Cup victor was foaled at Stockplace Farm in Fayette County. Winchester Senator Ralph Alvarado drafted the resolution. He says American Pharoah's legacy will be lengthy. “I mean obviously our sales are gonna be effected by that,” Alvarado said. “I mean any foals from this horse are gonna be just that much higher at Keeneland Sales. I know that for a fact.”
Alvarado says American Pharoah’s $200,000 stud fees will add revenues to the state and attract other breeders to Kentucky. The state senator says he wasn’t expecting the standing ovation in the senate for the American Pharoah resolution, but he says that’s an added recognition of the importance of the historic horse.
American Pharaoh is now standing at Ashford Stud in Woodford County. Senate Majority Leader Damon Thayer says the horse is scheduled to start breeding in February with his first offspring likely to hit the track in 2019.?
