Gov. Beshear Plans to Keep Up With Pressing Issues After Leaving Office

governor.ky.gov

Governor Steve Beshear’s term officially ends at midnight and Governor-elect Matt Bevin will assume office.  Beshear says he does not expect to cut all ties with issues of public interest.  The two-term governor has been especially active on the issue of health care.

Beshear is known nationally for his expansion of Medicaid under the Federal Affordadable Care Act.   “Certainly I’m leaving public life in terms of being a public official, but I’m still gonna be involved on issues that affect Kentucky and certainly health care is one of the major issues that I’ve been involved in and will continue to be involved in,” said Beshear.

Governor-elect Bevin has said that Kentucky cannot afford the Medicaid expansion and has vowed to dismantle the state health care exchange.

?Matt Bevin will be sworn in as Kentucky’s 62nd governor in a private ceremony at midnight.
