Veteran House GOP Leader Faces Opposition

kentucky.com

During this week of January, Kentucky lawmakers will select their party leaders in Frankfort.  Some posts will see little change but house republicans will have a decision to make. Northern Kentucky Rep Adam Koenig is challenging Majority Floor Leader Jeff Hoover for his position.  "You know I appreciate representative Hoover’s 14 years of service, but he's had 14 years and it's time for some new ideas and new energy," said Koenig.

Koenig says the failure to pick up any GOP seats in the 100 member House was his deciding factor to enter the race.  "I've had a lot of difficult races over the years and I know how to win elections and I think that's an experience that we could use in the top spot in our caucus," added Koenig.

Hoover is not talking about Koenig's run.  He says it will be discussed when lawmakers come back to Frankfort in January.  "You know I'm fortunate enough to be the captain of our team, of our House republican caucus," said Hoover.  "And, I think when there are disagreements or there are things going on within the team, those discussion need to take place in the locker room."

Hoover is looking to retain his position in minority leadership.  He says the item will be put before the GOP caucus.  "That's something that our caucus will do on January the 6th and my intention is to win and my intention is to come out with a united caucus moving forward," explained Hoover.

That locker room discussion is set for January 6th at the capitol.?
