The Eastern Kentucky University Colonels survived and moved on in the Ohio Valley Conference tournament. EKU defeated Austin Peay early Friday morning by a final score of 70-67.
As with many of the former matchups with the Governor’s it came down to the wire as EKU hung on for the chance to take on in-state rival Morehead State tonight in Evansville. It was a game that saw Eastern fall down by nine points early in the first half and then go up by as much as eleven mid-way through the second half. But, Austin Peay crept back to go ahead by one with less than six minutes to go. From there, it was tight until the end of the OVC tourney contest. Two key blocks from Eastern’s Devontae Blanton and then Michael Moreno with just a few seconds to go helped preserve the three point victory. After this weekend, the Colonels move to the ASUN conference this summer. But, it’s still OVC action Friday night when EKU tips off against Morehead around 10:30.
