EKU Football Coach Mark Elder Let Go

ekusports.com

Eastern Kentucky University Football Coach Mark Elder has been relieved of his duties.  The 41-year-old Elder just completed his fourth year at the helm of the Richmond school’s football program.

The announcement came from EKU Interim Athletics Director Mark Sandy.  Elder’s contract will expire in December.  In his four years at Eastern, the former University of Tennessee Assistant compiled a 21 -24 record and 15 -16 against Ohio Valley Conference teams.  The Colonels finished this football season at 7-5, winning it’s last game Saturday against Jacksonville State.

In a news release, Sandy said  “On behalf of the university and athletics department, I want to thank Mark for his hard work, diligent effort and contributions to EKU football. We all wish Mark and his family nothing but the best.”   The Lexington-Herald reports the last, post-season playoff win for Eastern came in 1994 under former legendary coach Roy Kidd.  A search for Eastern Kentucky’s next football coach will begin immediately.
