The Eastern Kentucky-Western Kentucky basketball matchup in McBrayer Arena was just that for the first quarter of the game. The two teams traded baskets early on and the Colonels took their biggest lead at 21-16. But the Hilltoppers responded and led at the halftime break by 11 points.
WKU broke out to an 18-point second half advantage only to see Eastern cut it down to an eight point deficit. EKU would even draw closer in the final seconds at 78-71. Western tacked on one more point to make the final 79 to 71 with the Battle of the Bluegrass going to the team from Bowling Green.
It was a career high night for Eastern guard Jomaru Brown who racked up 41 points. Charles Bassey led Western with 18 points.
