Many basketball fans are anxiously eyeing the late-night NCAA tournament tipoff tonight for the University of Kentucky. But attention yesterday in the state Senate focused on a team already crowned national champion.
Georgetown College took the NAIA title this week with a win over Carrol College from Montana. Tigers Head Coach Chris Briggs said the attention given to UK is to be expected. “A lot of people see it as a negative, but I see it as a positive. We have tons of season ticket holders that are UK season ticket holders as well. It’s just a different level of basketball with NAIA and obviously the highest level of NCAA division one,” said Briggs.
Briggs is in his eighth year as head coach at Georgetown and has two national championships now. He says his school and UK are both storied programs which support each other.
Georgetown Head Coach Chris Briggs spoke with Weku's Stu Johnson immediately following the passage of the citation recognizing the national championship team.
