A broad community coalition has joined together to make what is being called the biggest football games in Big Blue history a little safer.

The University of Kentucky, the Kentucky Distillers’ Association, Lyft, and several other groups have raised $20,000 to offer individual discounts in Lexington on game day.

Between noon and 2 a.m. on Saturday fans of legal drinking age can enter the promo code CAT-UR-DAY into the Lyftapp to redeem $20 in discounts. Those discounts are good for rides to and from the game, bars, restaurants, hotels and watch parties.

UK Police Chief Joe Monroe says this effort will quote “greatly assist us in making the entire game day environment safer.”

UK Police encourage Lyft drivers and riders celebrating at Kroger Field on Saturday to use the pull-off on Complex Drive in front of the Johnson/Seaton Center for their drop-off/pick-up location.

Lyft rides are just one of the responsible drinking activities planned for the weekend in which UK plays for the right to play in the SEC Championship football game, said KDA President Eric Gregory. “This is one of the biggest games in the history of Big Blue Nation,” he said. “We want fans to remember it.”

In addition to the Lyft program, a grassroots social impact movement called Better Drinking Culture will be tailgating at Kroger Field on Saturday alongside UK’s Campus Recreation and Wellness Department. BDC encourages consumers to develop a more mindful relationship with alcohol.
