The Eastern Kentucky University Colonels opened their 2018 football season with a 49-23 victory over in-state rival Morehead State. It was the first matchup since 2014.
Eastern jumped out to an early advantage, leading 18-zero after one quarter of play, building it up to 39 to seven early in the fourth quarter. But, the Morehead Eagles responded with two scores to narrow the final margin to 26.
It was a ground attack at 404 yards which proved most successful for EKU. The Colonels next travel down I-64 to Huntington to take on Marshall a week from tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Western Kentucky opens up with number four Wisconsin tonight in Madison. UK is at home tomorrow against Central Michigan. And the University of Louisville travels to Orlando for a matchup with defending national champion Alabama Saturday night.?
