A member of an Eastern Kentucky University championship team a half century ago has made the largest single gift commitment ever to the school’s football program.
The $250,000 will go to help equip an expansion at Roy Kidd Stadium.
The quarter million dollar gift comes from former All Ohio Valley Conference Safety Ted Green. He was part of the 1967 EKU team that topped Ball State in the Grantland Rice Bowl.
That squad is credited with helping to launch a successful football tradition at Eastern under head coach Roy Kidd. Kidd led subsequent teams to national championships in 1979 and 1982.
Current Assistant Athletics Director Austin Newton says Green’s gift will be used primarily to buy the “best of the best” lockers and enhance the locker room experience.
The locker room is part of the expansion project on the east side of Roy Kidd Stadium. It’s expected to open this fall and feature more than 3000 new bleacher seats and concourse.
