Olympic Games Tend to Boost State Games Interest

bgsg.org

While the world’s best known amateur athletic competition is about to gear up, Kentucky’s long standing amateur sports event is winding down.  The Olympic Games carry an impact in the Commonwealth.

The Bluegrass State Games is in its 32nd year as the state’s marque amateur event.  Bluegrass Sports Commission President Brian Miller says the 14 thousand competitors this summer are an increase over last year.  He says the state games get a boost from Olympic fever every four years.  “The Bluegrass State Games is certainly the Commonwealth’s Olympics where various ages and skill sets and genders compete to see who’s the best in the Bluegrass and they’re awarded with gold, silver, and bronze medals,” said Miller.

Miller says Olympic competition puts the spotlight on sports found in the Bluegrass State Games which typically don’t get much attention.  The state games will wrap up in the next couple of weeks with middle school volleyball, archery, and cheer leading.?
