A fundraising effort is underway to honor an Eastern Kentucky University legendary football coach. The university plans to erect a bronze statue at Roy Kidd Stadium.
Roy Kidd, a Corbin native, retired in 2002 with 315 wins including two national championships. EKU Board of Regents Vice Chair Ernie House played quarterback for the Colonels under coach Kidd in the 70’s. “It allows players and coaches to participate," said House. "People, that he had an impact on their lives, it allows them to get involved."
House says the goal is to raise $150,000 with hopes of erecting a bronze life sized statue and granite wall with the names of fellow coaches and Kidd coached players in place at Roy Kidd Stadium next fall. Kidd retired in 2002 after 39 years as head coach at EKU. The college football hall of famer retired as one of the winningest coaches in FCS history.?
