EKU Football Players Dies in Weekend SUV Crash

wtvq.com

The Eastern Kentucky University community is mourning the loss of a student-athlete.  19 year old Joey Kraemer died in a weekend crash in Madison County.

Joey Kraemer, an EKU redshirt freshman football player, was killed after his SUV left Tates Creek Road and struck a tree.  Madison County Coroner Jimmy Cornelison says, judging from the damage to the vehicle, speed was definitely a factor in the crash.

Eastern Head Coach Dean Hood released a statement saying, quote “The news that we lost one of our own is devastating to me, our team and our coaches,”  “We pray that God will give strength to Joey’s family during their time of mourning.  Joey will truly be missed by all of us he touched, not only because of what he accomplished on the football field, but because of who he was as a person and the impact he made on our lives.”

Kraemer, an Ohio native, joined the Colonel football team in August, after transferring from the University of Texas El Paso.  Eastern returns to action this weekend against the University of Kentucky.
