Stotelmyer: Neubauer Leaves Firm Foundation for Next EKU Basketball Coach

nypost.com

Eastern Kentucky University is beginning the search for a new coach to head the men's basketball program.  Jeff Neubauer is leaving to take over as head coach at Fordham University.

The man who's called EKU Colonel games since 1979 believes the school's basketball program is in solid shape.  Play by play announcer Greg Stotelmyer says Neubauer's success as head coach of the Colonels makes it a more attractive job now than a decade ago when the Florida native first came to the Richmond campus.  "An interesting offense, a very good x and o's coach, and he also recruited a very good student athlete,” said Stotelmyer.  “No problems out of the athletes; good in the classroom."

Neubauer leaves Eastern for Fordham as the second winningest coach in EKU history.  Two of his teams made trips to the NCAA Tournament.   Stotelmyer says Neubauer built on the success of his predecessor.  "Travis Ford started the engine toward success at EKU, but when Jeff Neubauer took over the controls, he pushed it on down the road and kept it on a good path,”Stotelmyer said. “So he has really helped EKU get a solid foundation in basketball and turned in to a basketball school."

Neubauer has  won more games over a four year period than any coach in school history.  He heads to Fordham of the Atlantic Ten, where he'll take over for Tom Pecora who was let go almost two weeks ago.?
