Kentucky's Football Season Opens

The University of Louisville Cards open their 2011 football season this evening, hosting Murray State. Second-year coach Charlie Strong says this is a young team, but he’s pleased with how the more experienced players have stepped forward in practice.

“Even with the limited number of seniors that we have, all those guys have tried to provide the leadership that we’re looking for. And they understand that 25 guys walked out of here last year and now it’s on them to provide the leadership,” Strong said this week.

Junior Will Stein will start at quarterback for the Cards, after playing in just two games last year.

U of L is coming off a 7-6 season, including a bowl victory; Murray State was 6 and 5 last season. Kickoff is at 6:00pm tonight.

UK and Western Kentucky also open play tomorrow–against each other. Kickoff is at 9:15 Eastern time in Nashville.
