Lexington Mayor Names Next Fire Chief

lexingtonky.gov

Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton has named Jason Wells to serve as the city’s next fire chief.  The 25-year fire service veteran takes over for Kristin Chilton, Lexington’s first female chief, who is retiring in early January.

Mayor Gorton says Lexington’s fire department is one of the best in the country and Wells will work with firefighters to build on that excellence.

For his part, Wells, who is currently Assistant Chief of Administration, thanked Chilton for her years of dedication to the division.  He also said while there have been many challenges in 2020 and more to come he looks forward to working with city administrators and firefighters to address them.

Jason Wells followed his father Jim Wells into the Lexington Fire Department.  The city received 24 applications from internal and external candidates from Kentucky and states as far away as Colorado and Florida.
