This weekend’s Fourth of July celebration in central Kentucky will be quite different because of coronavirus activity.
Fayette County Health Department Spokesman Kevin Hall says ‘if you don’t have to be somewhere, celebrate in the comfort of your home.’ But Hall added, if you are out this weekend, socially distance and wear a mask. He said be attentive to the proper use of a mask. “Make sure it’s covering your mouth. Make sure it’s covering your nose. We get it. They’re not comfortable, nobody likes wearing them for long periods of time. But, we have to do this in order to make sure that we’re stopping this,” said Hall.
The Fourth of July holiday brings with it an expectation of family and friends gathering to celebrate. Hall said small gatherings can be done safely, but it takes a conscious effort. “Being outside is going to be much better than staying indoors. It is going to be hot this weekend, so hopefully people can find a good balance to that. Try to limit the number of people. This is not the time to have the block party where everyone in the neighborhood comes over. Try to limit it to your immediate family and be as small and mindful as possible,” Hall noted.
When it comes to fireworks displays, Hall noted, one option is to watch the attraction on television. If planning on taking in fireworks in-person, Hall said maintain proper distancing from other observers.
