First In Kentucky Governor's Race Officially Announces In Capitol Rotunda

Stu Johnson

While Geoff Young filed as a Democrat to run for Kentucky governor on December 21 the Lexington retired state engineer officially announced his candidacy Wednesday in the Capitol rotunda.

Saying he and his Lieutenant Governor running mate Josh French of Elizabethtown are definitely in the race, Young outlined ten platform positions including stopping corruption in Kentucky regardless of partisan politics. He believes part of the problem lies in lobbyist influence. “For far too long, we have had lobbyists dominating the general assembly, dominating state government, and supporting narrow special interests against the interests of the people.”

Also among the ten platform items listed by Young are legalizing all forms of cannabis, overturning laws which he says undermine the Roe versus Wade abortion ruling, and taxing millionaires as well as reducing taxes on the poor.  Young has unsuccessfully run for a number of political offices in recent years.
