Candidates for Kentucky’s Ninth District State House were questioned in a recent forum about whether they support Governor Bevin’s proposed Medicaid changes. State officials said in August the current Medicaid program has a nearly $300 million dollar shortfall.
Potential changes include reducing the number of recipients and cuts to dental, vision and other services. Republican Representative Myron Dossett said the state needs to find funding and referenced part of the plan that has certain people pay premiums.
“One of the few things that I agreed with Governor Bevin on was this plan: which able-bodied workers - not single mothers and children - only those who could work - would pay a small portion as a premium: $20 a month,” said Dossett.
Democratic social worker Will Coleman said health care is a human right. Coleman said he’s running because he wants to invest more in education and to help children. Dossett said the pension system needs to be fully-funded or there will be an “unbearable burden” on children and grandchildren.
