Three Democratic Congressional Candidates Debate on WLEX Program

Stu Johnson

Three Central Kentucky Democrats vying for Congress participated in a WLEX televised debate last night at Transylvania University. This is the first time these three candidates laid out their platforms during this type of format.

The hour long debate heard on WEKU opened with each candidate talking about key planks in their political platforms.  For former Marine fighter pilot Amy McGrath it was working to protect the Affordable Care Act. “The Affordable Care Act was never perfect, but it was something that greatly benefitted Kentucky,” said McGrath.

In addition to backing a single payer health care system, State Senator Reggie Thomas wants to see country- wide connections.
“Create a new infrastructure, and not just roads and bridges.  But, a 21st century electric grid and high speed internet for everyone,” said Thomas.

Lexington Mayor Jim Gray prefers tackling Washington traditions to busy political gridlock. “Big money is controlling everything. And we’ve got to get rid of that,” noted Gray.

These three candidates, along with democrats Theodore Green, Geoff Young, and Daniel Kempf are vying in May Primary. The winner will likely take on incumbent Andy Barr in the fall
