Former Pres. Clinton Campaigns for Hilary in Lexington

Former President Bill Clinton has laid out his wife’s presidential platform on issues like corporate wealth, health care reform, and clean energy Tuesday in Central Kentucky.  He also hit on a topic near and dear to the hearts of his Lexington supporters, that of the cost of a college education. The two-term president told the crowd of about 400, mostly students, “A college loan is the only loan in America you cannot refinance when interest rates go down.  And that is wrong.”

Clinton also addressed issues such as equal pay, the heroin epidemic, and growing high-tech firms during his 30 minute speech.

The former president says his wife is proposing an option to work community service for two years to generate more than $23,000 to pay off college debt.  While talking about environmental issues including solar and wind energy, the former president didn’t mention the word coal at all.  Hillary Clinton has been criticized by some in Kentucky over previous comments about coal’s future.

While getting much reaction on managing college debt, Clinton also addressed health care issues.  He says the former First Lady's plan includes buy-in options for medicare and Medicaid.  “Then we’ve got to bargain down the price of prescription drugs like every other country does and get more people in health care plans where you pay to stay healthy instead of paying by procedure.”

In addition to Lexington, the Democratic stalwart addressed supporters in Morehead and Louisville.  The other Democratic presidential candidate, Bernie Sanders visits Kentucky, including Lexington, Wednesday.?
