Independent Drew Curtis Unsure of Political Future

The political future of independent gubernatorial candidate Drew Curtis is difficult to predict.  In fact it appears to be a 50-50 proposition for the Versailes resident.

Election night wasn't a sad event for Curtis. Despite coming in a very distant third place for Kentucky governor, Curtis had a light hearted concession speech and even got a few laughs from supporters. Curtis, a resident of Versailles and founder of the news aggregation site FARK.com says changing the political process is everyone’s responsibility.  “We can all sit back and we can all say, 'you know what, this can’t be changed, this system is broken, there’s no way to fix it,'” said Curtis.   “And that’s really easy because it doesn’t require a lot of work. But you know what? The system can be changed, and it has been changed.”

Curtis believes his candidacy put state pensions and restoring voting rights in a more prominent place in the gubernatorial campaign.  Whether he runs for governor four years from now, Curtis says depends on what issues are pressing at that point.

Curtis doesn’t envision himself running for a legislative position.  “As a senator or legislator, it’s like what am I doing in the off season?" He said. "I don’t have any laws I want to pass or influence I want to sell, so not really appealing to me. Now, that said, maybe somebody could explain it to me in a different way and I’m like oh, okay I’m in.   But right now, I don’t see it.”

If he decides to run again, Curtis says he would likely begin gathering signatures for a ballot spot, much earlier than he did this year.  He believes that could help to give legs to his ideas. ?
