Ky. Secretary of State Ups Prediction of Voter Turnout

wbko.com

Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes says there’s been a surge in the number of people voting absentee this election.

Grimes says because of the spike, she’s now predicting Tuesday's voter turnout will equal or even exceed that of the last governor’s race.

Fayette County Clerk Don Blevins says absentee voting is not a guaranteed predictor of participation.  “There’s a loose correlation between absentee turnout and the actual turnout at the election," said Blevins. "I don’t know that it tracks exactly one for one, so it’s gonna be hard to say.”

Blevin says, for the first time, his office is using a drive-through drop off procedure for voting machine information.

While it will help with safety and convenience issues for election officers, Blevins says it may not change how soon results are posted.  “We’re gonna do a drive through drop off of the machines and equipment, instead of having the officers come in the building,”  explained Blevins.  “So, wish us luck with that.  That’s gonna be a fairly complicated maneuver, but we think it’s gonna work and make the officers have a much quicker better evening.”

He says his office typically reports results very quickly.  Blevins says there are 153 voting locations with more than a thousand pieces of voting equipment and over a thousand election officers. The polls close at 6 pm.  ?
