Steve Kay to Become Lexington's Next Vice Mayor

kentucky.com

Come January, Lexington's new vice mayor will be Steve Kay.  The incumbent council member won top vote honors Tuesday night among the three at large winners.  Fellow council member Kevin Stinnett and former council member Richard Moloney also earned at large council seats.

One area where Kay sees great potential for Lexington is in local food production.  "There's a growing interest in it. People want more local food.  It's good for the economy.  It's good for the health of the people.  I think we're going to see a blossoming of the local food economy.  It's gonna be helpful in so many ways," said Kay.

Kay has been a professional facilitator for three decades.  He says it will be that philosophy he will use in trying to help the council and mayor's office work well together.   "Part of my job as vice mayor is to work between the council and administration to help them communicate better, collaborate more often, work together in a more effective way.  Not to get between the council and the mayor, but to help facilitate that relationship," explained Kay.

When he took office three years ago, Kay says he would not have predicted the city would have made so much progress in helping area homeless and funding for affordable housing. ?
