Centre College will not host a debate between incumbent U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell and challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes.
School officials announced Monday they are canceling efforts to host an exchange. Following weeks of planning and conversations with both camps, Centre College President John Roush says compromise simply did not occur.
In July, Centre offered to host a September 3rd debate between McConnell and Grimes. Roush wrote an open letter to the candidates last week asking for a final, definitive answer. At that time, Roush said he had heard from one campaign but was waiting on the other.
According to Centre’s website, school officials did speak with campaign members over the weekend but the two sides could not agree on terms. The Danville school has previously hosted two vice presidential debates.
Kentucky Educational Television announced last week, McConnell and Grimes will appear together October 13th on the network's Kentucky Tonight program.
