Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is touring eastern Kentucky in his campaign against Democratic challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes. Along for the ride, is veteran Republican U.S. Representative Hal Rogers.
McConnell’s focus remains on tying Grimes to President Barack Obama.
During a stop Thursday in Middlesboro on his Coal Country Bus Tour, McConnell said that a vote in November for Grimes is a vote for President Obama.
Obama is unpopular with Kentuckians due to his energy policies and moves to further place more restrictions on the coal industry.
Representative Hal Rogers, who has represented the region for more than three decades, told an enthusiastic crowd there’s only one reason Obama wants Grimes in the senate.
“She’ll be his. She’ll vote the way he wants, EPA or no. So he wants Alison Grimes. Kentucky needs Mitch McConnell,” said Rogers.
Grimes campaigned in Lexington and Hazard Wednesday with former President Bill Clinton. She shared the stage in Hazard with more than a dozen retired and active coal miners from the United Mine Workers of America.
