Kentucky's expected U.S. Senatorial race is on with Incumbent Senator Mitch McConnell and Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes as the Republican and Democratic party choices. Grimes easily outdistanced three fellow Democrats.
During her Tuesday night speech to supporters, she claimed any efforts by the 30-year senator to link her with President Obama are missing the point, saying, "Senator McConnell, this race is between you and me, that's the name that appears on the ballot."
Grimes told those gathered in the Carrick House ballroom the fall race is not about majority control in the U.S. Senate. "This election, it is not about party control. It is about two very different visions for the Commonwealth of Kentucky," added Grimes.
On a key energy issue, the challenger says she does not agree with what the president's critics call a "war on coal." Grimes says it's wrong for Kentucky.
In his primary race, Mitch McConnell defeated Tea Party Candidate Matt Bevin, gathering 60 percent of the vote compared to 35 percent for the Louisville businessman.?
