Madison County Declares Coronavirus State of Emergency

The cities of Richmond and Berea, along with Madison County, have filed a joint a state of emergency for the area. The move comes despite there being no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Madison County, as of Monday afternoon.

County officials said Monday afternoon that the state of emergency will allow them to prepare for a potential surge of coronavirus cases.

A news release from Madison County Emergency Management encourages the public to continue following CDC guidelines to help stop the spread of the virus.

Madison County Emergency Management Director Dustin Heiser told WEKU Monday afternoon that the state of emergency will allow officials to secure personal protective equipment.
