Governor Beshear On Coronavirus: Limit Public Gatherings Now

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear issued several new measures Wednesday morning to limit the spread of the coronavirus. Among them, Beshear called on everyone in the state to minimize their interactions and avoid large public gatherings.

Beshear announced the state is closing all prisons and similar facilities to visitors. He called on schools to develop plans to close on short notice. He also recommended churches and other faith institutions across Kentucky cancel services.

“Again I know that’s a big step I know that some won’t agree with it but I believe that it’s our job to offer those protections,” said Beshear.

The governor also implored anyone over the age of 60 and those with underlying health conditions to avoid large crowds. “Do not go places that there are large crowds and for these vulnerable populations and those over the age of 60 please do not fly and do not get on a cruise ship for any reason whatsoever,” said Beshear.

So far 8 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Kentucky.
