State Delays Implementing Work Requirement For Medicaid

Kentuckians with Medicaid coverage won’t have to start working or volunteering for 80 hours a month to keep their insurance until at least July. That’s according to a news release from the Cabinet for Health and Family Services on Thursday.

The work and volunteer requirement was originally supposed to start in July 2018. But in June of that year, a judge struck down the requirement. But the Trump administration re-approved the changes in November.

The requirement applies to people with Medicaid coverage who are so-called ‘able-bodied. It does not apply to children, pregnant women, people deemed ‘medically frail,’ and one caregiver per household.
