Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin and Ivanka Trump in Eastern Kentucky Today

Creative Commons

Kentucky governor Matt Bevin and the president’s daughter Ivanka Trump were in Eastern Kentucky today to discuss manufacturing and digital job training programs in economically struggling parts of the state.

Programs like the Eastern Kentucky Advanced Manufacturing Institute eKAMI and Interapt are training workers for what Trump called the jobs of the future.

Most of Eastern Kentucky is considered economically distressed or at-risk by the Appalachian Regional Commission, and declining coal employment has left communities scrambling to find jobs.

Trump said, "Just like great coal is exportable, so is code."

The pair also toured an eKAMI facility in Paintsville, where students sang an early happy birthday to Trump, who turns 37 next Tuesday.
