Murray Creates Scholarship To Honor Slain Teen Bailey Holt

Murray State University's School of Nursing and Health Professions and the Kentucky Nurses Association are setting up a scholarship to honor a victim of the Marshall County High School shooting.

Kentucky Nurses Association local chapter president Nancy Armstrong says the Bailey Holt Memorial Scholarship will benefit Marshall County High School graduates that are enrolled in the Murray State University’s nursing program or transferring into the program from a community college. Armstrong says $8,500  in donations fund the scholarship. Bailey Holt was one of two students killed in a school shooting last January. Bailey’s mother Secret Holt says her daughter would have gone to Murray State and enrolled in the nursing program.

“It was her dream to go to nursing school and be a labor and delivery nurse and just the support here and seeing the students from Marshall county here that are attending as well just means the world and I know it would to her too.”

Beard is a senior in the nursing program and a Marshall County High School alum. She says she thinks Bailey would be proud to see her legacy remembered by making a difference in someone’s life.
