A new service will provide short-term medical care to the homeless in Lexington and connect them to other services such as housing.
The Medical Respite Program is a partnership between the city and Bluegrass Care Navigators and will begin July 1.
Mayor Jim Gray said the program will help reduce emergency room visits, help stabilize homeless people who are ill and ultimately help get them off the street.
Lexington’s Medical Respite Program will be the second in the state. Louisville’s Phoenix Family Health Center operates the program there.
