Animal Rights Group Reacts to Cincinnati Gorilla Shooting

Cincinnati Zoo

A Cincinnati-based animal rights group filed an official complaint against the Cincinnati Zoo. Stop Animal Exploitation NOW is upset over the death of an endangered gorilla that was killed Saturday after a three-year old boy fell into a zoo enclosure.

The watchdog group’s Executive Director, Micheal Budkie stated that the zoo will be charged with a federal violation of the Animal Welfare Act.

“ It has become clear to us very quickly that if a young child could gain access to this enclosure in a matter of minutes, then there has to be a major problem with the enclosure, and that’s one of the reasons that we file a complaint with the USDA, and that we are requesting a federal investigation.”

Budkie says that the death of 17 year-old silverback gorilla Harambe is one of multiple violations filed against the zoo because of inadequate enclosures.
