ukhealthcare.uky.edu

Police identified the Richmond police officer wounded in a shootout with a robbery suspect as Daniel Ellis, a 7-year veteran of the force.

Kentucky State Police investigators say Ellis was shot in the head at an apartment while searching for a man suspected of trying to mug a woman in a gas station parking lot several hours earlier. He suffered life-threatening injuries and remains hospitalized.

Police say an officer with Ellis returned fire and wounded the shooting suspect. The man, whose identity police have not yet disclosed, was released from the hospital Wednesday afternoon and taken into custody. He has not yet been charged.

Police say another man who was in the home, 25-year-old Gregory Ratliff, who was not injured in the shootout, was arrested and charged with complicity to commit murder of a police officer.
