Wet Summer is Perfect Set Up for Bright Fall Colors

kentuckytourism.com

Over the next few weeks, Kentuckians and visitors to the Commonwealth will likely begin to see trees changing to fall colors.

A popular viewing site for colorful fall trees is Natural Bridge State Park.

Park Naturalist Brian Gasdorf says a relatively damp summer, coupled with recent cool sunny days, provide a good formula for a colorful fall.  "We've really in the last week or two have had just the perfect fall temperatures and conditions with sunny conditions that we need to set us up for a good fall color. Year and so, in my opinion, it's gonna be a good year if we can continue these kind of nice cool and real bright sunny days," said Gasdorf

Gasdorf says he's already noticed the leaves of some dogwoods changing color from white to red.  He says sycamore and tulip trees should be following suit.   This time of year, Gasdorf says the park welcomes visitors from all over Kentucky and beyond.  "Course, we're in the Red River Gorge area, which is highly known for hiking opportunities and scenic opportunities and you add the fall color to that and it makes October the busiest season of the year," added Gasdorf.

Kentucky's Department of Travel and Tourism is sponsoring the Color Fall program.  Information is available atkentuckytourism.com/seasons.
