SOAR Project Brings Centers for Disease Control Director to Eastern Kentucky

Spacecoastdaily.com

The top official in the federal Centers for Disease Control is making stops this week in three Kentucky communities. The visits are in connection with the Shaping Our Appalachian Region or SOAR project.

CDC Director Dr. Thomas Frieden joined Kentucky Congressman Hal Rogers Tuesday for the health impact series symposium in Hazard.

The SOAR-related event included details about the University of Kentucky Appalachian Center Patient Navigation Project.  The one and a half million dollar federally-funded project will help Eastern Kentucky patients hook up with breast, cervical, and colorectal cancer screening sites.

The Community Leadership Institute of Kentucky is also being launched.  It's a three week leadership development program for community leaders who play a key role in using health data and making health care decisions.

In addition to Hazard, Dr Frieden will make stops in Paintsville and Morehead this week. ?
