Feedback: When it Comes to Weather, How About Just the Facts?

Here’s a call we received from listener David in Lexington, “I  love your station.  Could not live without it but I do have a couple of complaints.  One is the way the announcers slant the weather reports. If it’s possible to make it sound worse than it’s going to be, it seems like that’s the kind of emphasis."

David continues, "One of your announcers, ‘It’s only gonna be five degrees, and it’s only gonna be…’ No matter what it is, he says ‘It’s only gonna be.’ How about just the facts?”

Listener Robin posted on the WEKU website last week, “I would like to know why there is no traffic/accident/road condition coverage in the Richmond, Berea, Irvine areas? The only time we hear anything in Richmond is at or near the interstate. Lots of folks are driving to Lexington for work and some drive from Lexington to the outer regions for work and they don't always travel the interstate.”

A very important and often-asked question indeed. The fact is that we do not have a source for many traffic incidents in these areas.  Lexington has its Traffic Management Center which we can access and follow constantly.  Likewise, the state’s Transportation Cabinet “511” information site lists other major accidents and issues.  If an event doesn’t make it to those sites, we often don’t know about it.

But here is something we can do, encourage listeners to call us and let us know when you’re aware of a problem on the roadways.  Very soon, we will be adding an option to the “phone tree” message you get when you call the station so you can contact our Master Control during Morning Edition and All Things Considered.  Stay tuned for more information about that.

We’re always grateful for your feedback.
